Terms of Service
Effective date: 8 October 2026 (2026-10-08) · Last updated: 8 October 2026 · Version: 2026-10-08
SwipelyNews is run by one independent developer, not a company. These Terms are an agreement between you and SwipelyNews ("we", "us": the developer who runs it; see Who runs SwipelyNews), support@swipelynews.com. The Terms cover the SwipelyNews app (the "App") and swipelynews.com (the "Website"), together the "Service".
In short: SwipelyNews is for adults (18+). The news is reported by real news outlets and summarised by AI, which can make mistakes, so check the original article for anything important. Rewarded videos unlock reading time that has no money value. Don't scrape the Service or cheat the rewards. As a consumer, you keep all your statutory rights.
See also our Privacy Policy and Copyright & Publisher Policy.
1. Definitions
- "Story": one item in the feed. It combines an AI summary, media from a publisher's article, credit to the outlet, and a link to the original.
- "Publisher Content": the articles, headlines, photos, videos and logos of the news outlets ("publishers").
- "AI Summary": the headline and summary we generate from a publisher's article with AI, including translations.
- "Unlock": a period of unlimited reading in the Home feed, given for free or for watching a rewarded video.
- "Profile": your anonymous guest profile or your optional account.
2. Who can use SwipelyNews
- You must be 18 or older. We ask everyone for their year of birth once. If you're under 18, the App stays locked on that phone until your 18th birthday. If we learn that a user is under 18, we delete their data.
- Personal use only. The Service is for personal, non-commercial use.
- Legal eligibility. You may not use it if the law, including sanctions law, forbids it.
3. Accepting and changing these Terms
- How you accept. You accept these Terms by ticking "I'm 18 or older, I agree to the Terms of Service and have read the Privacy Policy" and tapping Agree. We record the version you accepted. The Terms are always available at swipelynews.com/terms and in Settings › About.
- When we change them. We may change these Terms for a valid reason, such as new features, legal changes, security or misuse. Changes can't alter the core of our agreement to your disadvantage.
- Active acceptance. We'll show you the changes in the App, with a summary, and ask you to actively accept them. We never treat silence as agreement. If you don't accept, you can stop using the Service and delete your profile at any time; until then the previous version applies.
- Your rights while a change is pending. You can always download or delete your data and withdraw consents.
4. Your profile
- Guest profile. When you agree, we create a guest profile so you can save stories on this phone. Inactive guest profiles are deleted after 13 months.
- Account. An account is optional and free (email code, Google or Apple; no passwords). Keep your email or sign-in provider secure. One person per account; accounts can't be transferred.
- Deletion. Delete your data at any time: Profile › settings gear › Delete account (or Delete my data, at the bottom of Settings). See Delete your account.
- Free reading time belongs to the phone, not the profile (see section 8).
5. Your licence
- What you may do. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the App on your own devices, and the Website, for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may share stories with the App's share feature, which shares a link crediting the outlet.
- What you may not do. Otherwise, you may not copy, republish, sell or build a competing product from the Service or its content.
- Statutory rights. Your statutory rights, such as private copying or quotation, aren't affected.
6. The news, AI summaries and our independence
- Reported by real news outlets, summarised by AI.
- Every story is based on an article by a third-party outlet, which we credit and link.
- We don't write the news, and we're not the publisher of the original articles.
- We use AI to write a short headline and summary, pick photos or videos from the article, translate, sort stories into topics, and blur graphic media until you tap to view it. See How AI summaries work.
- AI makes mistakes. Summaries are generated automatically, without a person checking each one. They can miss context, mistranslate, misattribute or be wrong. The original article is the reference. Summaries aren't advice of any kind (legal, medical, financial or other).
- Independence and neutrality. SwipelyNews is independent and politically neutral.
- We aren't affiliated with, funded by or acting for any political party, government, religious community, interest group or news outlet, and we don't endorse any of them.
- Stories reflect the original outlets' reporting; their views are theirs, not ours.
- We don't accept payment for including, ranking or covering stories, and there are no sponsored stories. The only ads are rewarded videos, clearly separate from the news.
- Your feed is ranked automatically by recency, popularity, your country and your own interests and settings, never by political viewpoint (see How your feed works).
- We include outlets that publish original reporting under editorial responsibility, are freely accessible and meet published, viewpoint-neutral criteria (such as a public masthead, ownership disclosure and a corrections policy). These criteria decide only which outlets we include; they don't rank stories. We never choose outlets by their political orientation.
- We can't guarantee that every summary or selection is free of bias or error. If something concerns you, use Report or write to support@swipelynews.com (subject: "Correction").
- Corrections and availability. Report errors in the App (⋯ More › Report). We correct or remove stories where appropriate. Stories can change or disappear, for example when a publisher updates an article or opts out.
- Reading articles. Articles open on the publisher's own page by default. An optional Reader view, and translation made on your device, aren't offered on paywalled pages.
7. Links and third-party services
- Publishers' websites. We link to publishers' websites, which we don't control. Their terms apply there. If we learn that a linked page is unlawful, we remove the link.
- Third-party services. Some features use third-party services: Google (ads, sign-in, notifications, crash reports, Android translation packs), Apple (sign-in, notifications, translation) and your app store. Their terms may also apply.
8. Rewarded videos and unlocks
How it works now (the App always shows the current numbers):
- Free period. Each phone gets a free period, currently 3 days.
- Rewarded videos. After that, when your unlocked time runs out, you can watch a short rewarded video to unlock reading, currently for 60 minutes, added to any time left.
- Daily limit. Currently 4 videos a day. The last one unlocks the rest of the day, until 00:00 UTC.
- "On us" unlocks. If a video can't load, we may unlock "on us", currently once a day.
- Never locked: original articles, shared or notification stories, Discover, your saved stories, Settings, and the legal pages.
Rules:
- No monetary value. Unlocks and free periods can't be bought, sold, transferred or paid out.
- Optional. Watching is always your choice, and the reward is shown first. An unlock is given only for a completed, verified video.
- Changes. We may change the free period, durations, limits or the reward system for a valid reason (e.g. fraud, ad availability or the Service's sustainability). Time already credited stays, except in cases of fraud.
- Third-party ads. Ads come from Google AdMob and its partners, and we don't endorse what they advertise. Your privacy choices never affect whether you can earn an unlock. Report an ad via its "i" icon or Settings › Support › Report an ad.
- Fair use. Don't fake, script or replay ad views, use modified apps or device-ID tricks, or bypass the Lock Card. If we see concrete signs of this, we may void the affected unlocks and restrict rewarded videos, and we'll hear you first where possible.
- Free. You pay nothing, and there's no subscription to cancel.
9. Fair use
Please don't:
- scrape the Service: crawling, bulk downloading, or extracting content or data, including to train AI models. We reserve text and data mining (Art. 4(3) of Directive (EU) 2019/790);
- use bots, unofficial clients or modified apps, or access our APIs outside the App and Website;
- reverse engineer the App, except where the law allows it;
- circumvent security, rate limits, the age check, the Lock Card, consent settings, or protections of Publisher Content;
- abuse the rewards (section 8) or misuse reports (false, abusive or bulk reports);
- attack or disrupt the Service. Report vulnerabilities to support@swipelynews.com (subject: "Security report");
- republish or sell content, or remove credits or "AI summary" labels;
- impersonate anyone or misstate your age, or break the law or others' rights.
10. Reports and moderation
- Reporting. Report a story in the App (⋯ More › Report). It then disappears from your feed. See the Reporting guidelines.
- Notices. Anyone can notify us of illegal or infringing content by email to support@swipelynews.com (subject: "Legal notice", or "Copyright notice"; see the Copyright & Publisher Policy).
- How we decide. We review reports and notices ourselves, carefully and objectively; automated tools only flag graphic media. We may correct, blur, remove a story or stop using an outlet, or take no action. We confirm notices, tell the notifier our decision, and give the affected publisher a statement of reasons. Both can ask us to review the decision again within 6 months.
- Misuse. After a warning, we may stop processing reports or notices from anyone who repeatedly sends manifestly unfounded ones.
- Points of contact. For authorities: support@swipelynews.com (subject: "Authority contact (DSA)"); for users: support@swipelynews.com.
11. Changes to the Service
- Valid reasons. We may change the Service for a valid reason (new features, technical or legal changes, security, the end of a third-party service, or sustainability), at no cost to you.
- Changes that affect you. If a change impairs your use more than slightly, we'll tell you in advance, and you can end the contract free of charge within 30 days (Art. 19 of Directive (EU) 2019/770) by deleting your profile.
- Shutting down. We'll give at least 30 days' notice before shutting the Service down, so you can download your data.
12. Ending the contract
- You can end it at any time by deleting your profile.
- We can end it with 30 days' notice for a valid reason. Either side can end it immediately for good cause under applicable law: for us, for example, serious or repeated breaches after a warning, or being under 18.
- Milder measures first. Before ending it, we consider milder steps, such as restricting unlocks, and we hear you where possible.
13. Liability
- Unlimited. We're liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, under applicable product liability law, and for guarantees we give.
- Slight negligence. For slight negligence, we're liable only for breaching an essential obligation (one that makes the contract possible and that you may rely on), and only for the typical, foreseeable damage. Otherwise, liability for slight negligence is excluded.
- Statutory rights. Your statutory rights as a consumer in respect of digital content and services that aren't in conformity (e.g. under Directive (EU) 2019/770) aren't affected.
- Our content. We're responsible for AI Summaries as our own content under these rules. For linked pages and third-party ads, we're responsible only if we know they're unlawful and don't act.
- Outside Europe. For users outside the EU/EEA/UK/Switzerland, to the extent the law allows: the Service is provided "as is", implied warranties are disclaimed, and our total liability is limited to the greater of USD 50 or the amount you paid us in the last 12 months (normally zero). Point 1 always applies.
14. Using SwipelyNews for work (non-consumers)
If you use the Service for work, i.e. not as a consumer, you indemnify us against third-party claims caused by your culpable breach of section 9.
15. Law and disputes
- Talk to us first. Write to support@swipelynews.com (subject: "Legal notice").
- Applicable law. If you're a consumer, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you live apply. Otherwise, the law of the operator's country of residence applies, without the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Nothing here takes away the protection of your home country's mandatory rules.
- Courts. Consumers may sue us in their home courts as the law allows (in the EU, the courts of the country where they live), and we may sue consumers only there. For non-consumers, the courts of the operator's country of residence have jurisdiction.
- No class actions. For US users, to the extent permitted, claims must be brought individually, not as a class action. This doesn't apply wherever such waivers aren't allowed (including the EU and UK).
- No consumer arbitration. We don't take part in proceedings before a consumer arbitration body.
16. Right of withdrawal
If you're a consumer in the EU, you may withdraw from this contract within 14 days of agreeing to it, without giving a reason (Directive 2011/83/EU). Tell us by a clear statement, e.g. an email to support@swipelynews.com (subject: "Withdrawal"). Sending it before the deadline is enough.
If you withdraw, we end the contract and delete your profile. There's nothing to refund, because the Service is free.
Simpler: you can end the contract at any time by deleting your profile.
Model withdrawal form (you don't have to use it):
To SwipelyNews, support@swipelynews.com: I hereby withdraw from my contract for the provision of the SwipelyNews service. Agreed on (): … / Name: … / Address: … / Date: … () delete as appropriate.
17. App Store and Google Play
If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store, these terms apply as well, and they take precedence where they conflict, without reducing your consumer rights:
- Agreement with us, not Apple. These Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"). We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the App and its content.
- Scope of licence. Your licence is non-transferable and covers use of the App on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. It also covers other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing or volume purchasing, where permitted.
- Maintenance and support. We're solely responsible for maintenance and support (support@swipelynews.com). Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the App.
- Warranty. We're solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the App, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility.
- Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the App or your possession or use of it, including:
- (i) product liability claims;
- (ii) any claim that the App fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and
- (iii) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy or similar legislation.
- Intellectual property. If a third party claims that the App or your possession and use of it infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
- Legal compliance. You represent and warrant that:
- (i) you're not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country; and
- (ii) you're not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Developer name and contact. SwipelyNews (the developer is named in Who runs SwipelyNews). Questions, complaints or claims: support@swipelynews.com.
- Third-party terms. You must comply with applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the App.
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
If you downloaded the App from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply to the download. Google isn't a party to these Terms.
18. Intellectual property
- Publishers' rights. Publisher Content belongs to the publishers and their licensors, including authors' and photographers' rights and the press publishers' right (Art. 15 of Directive (EU) 2019/790). See the Copyright & Publisher Policy.
- Our rights. The App, the Website, the SwipelyNews name and logo, and our selection and arrangement of content are ours or our licensors'.
- Feedback. We may use feedback you send us free of charge.
19. General
- Language. These Terms are available in all the App's languages, and all versions are equally authoritative. If versions differ, or a term is unclear, the interpretation most favourable to you applies.
- Invalid provisions. If a provision is invalid, the rest remains valid, and the statutory rules apply instead.
- Transfer. We may transfer the contract to a successor operator of the Service with 30 days' notice; you may then end it at any time. You may not transfer your rights.
- Notices. We give notices in the App, by email (accounts) or on the Website.
